VISION STATEMENT

The youth of San Juan Capistrano shall project positive character through interaction among themselves, other youth individuals and groups, and through charitable community service,  and be an integral component of the planning and decision-making process of community and city leaders regarding youth matters.

MISSION STATEMENT

Youth Advisory Board members shall continuously strive to recognize and understand the needs of the youth of the community and actively present those needs to city and community leaders for timely and positive action. The Youth Advisory board shall coordinate with community and city leaders to improve youth charitable service to the community, and to improve cultural, educational, recreational, and local shopping experience of local youth.

BOARD DESCRIPTION:

The Youth Advisory Board consists of a maximum of twenty (20) youth members and a minimum of five (5) youth members; and at least three (3) adult advisory members. A minimum 75% of Board members shall be residents of San Juan Capistrano.  Members are selected based on their desire to serve the community, and involvement in community and youth activities. The geographic areas of the City where the applicant resides and the school that the applicant attends shall also be considered.

BOARD FUNCTIONS (Dependent on staffing and funding)

YAB serves as an advocate for local youth.

YAB Board members shall be familiar with youth activities/clubs at their school and advise the YAB of activities/clubs deserving support/recognition by the community and city leaders.

YAB shall coordinate with the community, youth, business, and city leaders to encourage youth involvement in city projects, activities, developments, and ordinances that affect the youth of the city.

YAB shall foster a greater involvement of youth in business,  municipal government, and city affairs.

YAB members shall attend and be involved in city and community events as deemed appropriate by the Youth Advisory Board.
